Pinnacles National Park preserves a remarkable range of natural, historic and cultural treasures. Climbing and hiking among the breathtaking spires, caves and rock formations that give Pinnacles its name is only the beginning.

While most visitors know Pinnacles for its spectacular volcanic geology, the park is also home to a rich cultural heritage. In 2006, the National Park Service acquired the adjacent 2,600-acre Bacon Homestead, which was first established in 1852. The traditional family-run cattle ranches that used to dominate much of the economy of the West are disappearing. A stroll through the broad range land, majestic valley oak woodlands, and historic ranch buildings of Bacon Homestead give visitors a chance to experience a dynamic part of our western heritage.

The Fund for People in Parks provided a grant for DiVittorio and Associates to design and install an exhibit at the Visitor Center to educate and lead people to the Bacon Homestead, including brochures with a map, printed in both Spanish and English.  The Fund then took on a
second phase project to install educational signs at the site.

The exhibit was installed in 2015 and visitors now have access to the previously untold story of Bacon Homestead.

Project Cost: $9,716                                                                     Project Completed: 2015
The path to Bacon Ranch at Pinnacles National Park is a beautiful walk that just about everyone can manage. There are plenty of shade trees and the grounds are peaceful and pleasant. Historical placards full of informative descriptions and photographs have been placed near all the buildings. For a casual walk with tremendous learning opportunities, you cannot go wrong with this Bacon Ranch stroll."
