The Oregon Caves Historic District covers 60 acres in the main visitor area of Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve in southern Oregon. Approximately 80,000 visitors walk through the district each year. All the historic buildings were built between 1926 and 1942 in a classic style with rough-cut, Port Orford cedar-bark sheathing, wood-shingled roofs, and set with rustic stone laid out by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
The Fund for People in Parks provided a grant to fund the design and production of 10,000 interpretive brochures for distribution to visitors at the Oregon Caves Visitor Center. Design is being overseen by our prime interpretive design contractor, DiVittorio and Associates, similar to the process used for design and production of the Oregon Caves Trail Guide, a Fund project in 2016. The brochure design was completed in January 2019. Due to significant structural concerns, the Chateau at Oregon Caves is closed for restoration through 2025, at which point brochures will be available to the public. Project Cost: $7,485 Project Completed: 2019 The Fund for People in Parks: $6,375 Crater Lake and Oregon Caves Natural History Association: $1,110 |
