Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks protect a wealth of resources – high alpine mountains, giant trees, and underground caves – and have a diverse visitor base. An effort is underway to engage audiences that are not currently connecting with the two jointly-managed parks.
The Fund for People in Parks has provided a grant to the Sequoia Parks Conservancy to produce a series of 10 short films that will provide first-person accounts from people of diverse backgrounds. These films will tell lesser-known stories about park history and people who visit and work in the parks today. They will be broadcast through social media and on the park’s website. This cost-effective and contemporary form of communication will help current and future generations find their place in National Parks. Many films have been produced and released on social media and the park's website (see some below!), and final production is expected by Fall 2024. Project Cost: $35,200 Project Begun: 2022 The Fund for People in Parks: $32,000 Sequoia Parks Conservancy: $3,200 |
