From its iconic rocky Pacific Ocean headlands and expansive sand beaches, to its open grasslands and forested rolling hills, Point Reyes National Seashore offers visitors a wide range of natural beauty. Point Reyes features a highly diverse population of over 1,500 species of plants and animals, historic structures, including the iconic Point Reyes Lighthouse, and working ranches, all within a short drive from the San Francisco Bay region.
The Fund for People in Parks provided a grant for three educational signs on the recently renovated 2.2-mile section of the Estero Trail. The trail snakes along Drakes Estero, one of the most significant and popular features of the park. Designer Dan DiVittorio assisted National Park Service staff with creative content, design, fabrication, and installation of the signs. Signs were installed by the National Park Service with support from a Youth Conservation Corps member in August 2019. Project Cost: $17,926 Project Completed: 2019 Point Reyes National Seashore Association was proud to partner with The Fund for People in Parks to install three wayside signs recognizing the trail's resources, the marine wilderness and the Coast Miwok history, and the landing of Sir Francis Drake at the site. The new signs are arguably the best ones in the park!" |
