OpenRoad on NBC Bay Area features host Doug McConnell guiding viewers to parks and open spaces protected by the public. The Fund for People in Parks sponsored a segment of an OpenRoad episode about Manzanar National Historic Site, a National Park where the Fund is supporting projects to enhance the visitor experience.
The segment explores historically-important and currently-relevant stories from World War II: the incarceration of thousands of Japanese-American citizens at Manzanar in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. The segment was first broadcast on March 31, 2019 and will be rebroadcast again in reruns. The original broadcast reached thousands of viewers, and will continue to have impact via websites and social media. You can see the segment below or on the park's YouTube channel. All footage shot at Manzanar has been made available to National Park Service staff for future use in enhancing the public’s understanding of American history.
