Joshua Tree National Park features world-famous rock formations, funky Joshua trees, and stunning vistas where the Mojave and Colorado Desert ecosystems meet. The rich diversity of plants, animals, and human history are matched by countless recreational opportunities - hiking, camping, wildflower viewing, stargazing, biking, birding, backpacking, 4x4 driving, horseback riding, Junior Ranger programs, and photography - that are attractive to Joshua Tree's incredibly diverse visitorship.

The park's visitor centers are located somewhat off the beaten path for the average visitor, and the park has a pressing need to communicate information to its 3.3 million annual visitors. The Fund for People in Parks is supporting the creation and installation of 26 bilingual English/Spanish signs, eight with thermometers, to replace temporary signs or install in new locations. The signs will improve trip-planning, provide seasonal cold- and heat-safety tips, facilitate wayfinding, and elaborate on park regulations to protect the park's fragile ecosystems.

Project Cost: $49,164                                                        Project Begun: 2025
Project co-funders: National Park Service, Joshua Tree National Park Association
By updating these signs to durable exhibits and adding additional trip-planning information at campground restrooms, more park visitors will have access to information they need for a successful and safe park experience. The goals include enhancing the visitor experience with improved trip planning, encouraging visitors to make stewardship-orientated choices while experience the park, and reducing safety incidents."
