OpenRoad is a television show on NBC Bay Area featuring Doug McConnell. It takes viewers on journeys to explore the natural, historical, and cultural treasures of California, focusing on parks and open spaces protected by the public. The show has numerous underwriters, comprised primarily of conservation groups in Northern California.
The Fund for People in Parks produced an episode on Death Valley National Park. Death Valley National Park is the largest park in the lower-48 states – bigger than the state of Connecticut! It is also the lowest, driest, and hottest place in the United States. The episode features iconic places such as Dantes View, the Racetrack Playa, and Scotty’s Castle, and highlights new opportunities for discovery. The episode broadcast on air twice in the summer of 2018 and once in spring of 2019, reaching over 150,000 viewers. It may have the opportunity for future rerun broadcasts. The episode can be seen below and is currently available on the NBC Bay Area website. The Fund and the National Park Service have also received video material for future educational purposes.
