Death Valley National Park’s museum collections preserve an extensive array of natural and historic artifacts that reflect the broad diversity of the park. Unfortunately, museum display space in the park is extremely limited and rare items in storage remain out of public view.
The Fund for People in Parks provided a grant to the Death Valley Natural History Association to acquire and install a museum-quality display case in the Furnace Creek Visitor Center for public display of a variety of irreplaceable museum artifacts. To maximize exposure, objects will be rotated through the display on a regular basis. The display case was installed in 2017 and is in active use for over a million visitors each year to connect to many remarkable stories that Death Valley has to tell. Project Cost: $8,000 Project Completed: 2017 Thank you for your support of Death Valley National Park. This project is currently being used to display tiles as part of a larger Scotty's Castle exhibit located in the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. Visitors from all over the world can now experience a tidbit of Scotty's Castle even though it is closed until 2020. In the future, the display case can host other rotating exhibits for years to come." |
